CONFIRMATION

What is Confirmation?

  • Confirmation is a class for students who have completed 7th grade and are interested in joining the church. During Confirmation, students take classes to learn about the foundations of our Christian Faith and what it means to be a United Methodist. Some of the topics we cover include understanding the Trinity, Creation & Sin, Jesus & the New Covenant, and Spiritual Gifts. Students going through Confirmation are also paired with a mentor from the church to meet with throughout their journey to have a safe space to process all they are learning.

Why do we as UMC practice Confirmation?

  • As United Methodists, we observe the practice of infant baptism whereby parents choose to have their children baptized shortly after they are born. Because of this, Confirmation serves as an opportunity for students to claim their faith in Jesus Christ for themselves in a meaningful way.

What if I haven’t been baptized yet?

  • You have to be baptized in order to be Confirmed in the United Methodist Church. If a student was not baptized as an infant, they will have the opportunity to get baptized at some point during Confirmation Class before they can join the church.

  • Students can register for Confirmation starting in the 8th grade, but they are welcome to join the class any year after that as well.
