Adult Sunday School and Christian Education

All Adult Sunday School and Education classes are open to friends and members of Church of the Saviour 18 years old and up. All classes are “open door.” Even if a class has begun and is in session, all interested participants are welcome. All of our adult leaders are passionate about helping seeking Christians develop a deeper relationship with God through Bible study, fellowship, and education. This year beginning in the fall, there will be new class options and opportunities for those adults who have an interest in facilitating or co-facilitating a small group. The Adult Education department encourages all church members and friends of Church of the Saviour to get connected to a small group experience. If you have questions about any classes, please contact Giselle Schipper ( or 791-3142 ext.27).

Sunday Morning Classes

The Upper Room Class–9:40 a.m.  (Office Conference Room)

The Upper Room Class uses Disciplines – A Book if Daily Devotions 2010, as their course of study. This devotional study offers Bible readings, thoughtful reflections, and spiritual nurture to people seeking God. All are welcome to join this class as they undertake the practice of daily Bible reading, study, and prayer. The goal of this intimate Bible-based class is to support every member’s Christian transformation and growth.

This class is facilitated by Starla Clark and friends of the class.

The Seeker Class–9:40 a.m. (Room 12)

All adults are invited to join the Seekers Sunday School class as we continue our current study. We are reading and discussing the book If You're Going the Wrong Way . . . Turn Around by James Moore.

Sometimes in life when we find ourselves going the wrong way, we continue down that path, hoping that eventually we will get back on the right path. However, James Moore makes it clear that when we are going the wrong way, when we are going a dangerous way, a destructive way, a potentially deadly way, there is only one thing to do: Turn around as fast as you can! This is not only true when we find ourselves driving the wrong way on the highway, but it is also true on the spiritual and moral roads of life. The good news is that, with God, turnarounds are allowed. God enables and empowers all turnarounds.  The Christian word for turn around is “repent.” Turn away from whatever it is you are doing and go the opposite direction. The military term for turn around is “about face.” Again, it means to immediately turn the other direction and go.  No matter what direction our life is going, if we feel it is the wrong way, God is there to help us and encourage us to repent or do an about face. The following are just a few of the areas we will explore:Going from selfish ambition to humble serviceGoing from empty living to zestful livingGoing from doubt to faithGoing from fear to confidenceThe Seekers class is a discussion oriented class. All adults are welcome to join us any Sunday for lively discussion and fellowship.

Purchase of the book will be available in class.

This class is facilitated by Denny Billman and Cliff Hern.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study—10:00-11:30 a.m. (Library)

Sermon-Based Growth Groups

At Church of the Saviour, we believe spiritual growth is developed out of two basic commitments:A commitment to God and the Bible.A commitment to significant Christian relationships.Sermon-based Growth Groups are a key way to get connected and be encouraged to grow spiritually at Church of the Saviour.

What are Sermon-based Growth Groups?

These are home Bible study groups that require a 10-week commitment, and are comprised of 10-12 people who meet weekly to share, to study God’s Word, and to support one another spiritually. These groups will study growth group” homework”, a few questions found on the back of the sermon notes each week, and also available online on the church website. The participants engage in discussion that involves the sermon as well as searching for deeper growth by applying Biblical teachings to their everyday life.

When do Sermon-based Growth Groups start and end for the year?

Our long-term groups meet for three 10-week sessions that begin in September and run through June. They take a break during the summer.Registration for our fall groups will begin August 30.

Please keep posted to website, and weekly bulletin for all updates.

The Fall session begins the week of September 13 and ends the week of November 15.

If you have questions regarding either joining one of these small groups or facilitating/hosting a new group for study and fellowship, please contact Giselle Schipper (791-3142, ext.27/ ).

New Sunday School Class or Small Group Study?  Are you interested?

There have been requests for a Sunday school class meeting at 8:30 a.m. and/or 11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings as well as small group formation via off-site church, online, Facebook, and/or Twitter.  The issue becomes finding co-facilitators who have the gift of leadership to take on this opportunity.

Through the guidance and leadership from the Discipleship Purpose Group, we can help with study materials, resources, and promotion.

On Wednesday September 15, 2010 the Discipleship Purpose Group will have an open house in the parlor and library for anyone interested in facilitating or co-facilitating a small group study. There will be current Adult Christian Education leaders available to offer information and answer questions. If you are seeking to facilitate or participate in Christian education, fellowships, and study in a relaxed and open environment, please contact Giselle Schipper ( ) or David Scheppler ( or 398-0692).
